The TiCO2e Carbon Calculator is a free tool provided by the National Indian Carbon Coalition (NICC), a program of the Indian Land Tenure Foundation (ILTF). We do not sell your data, serve advertising, or share your information with third parties for marketing purposes. This page explains what limited data we do collect and why.

1. Who We Are

This calculator is operated by the Indian Land Tenure Foundation (ILTF) through its National Indian Carbon Coalition program. The calculator's primary domain is tico2ecalculator.com, also accessible at tico2e.tribalcobenefits.com. Questions about this policy can be directed to bvanstippen@iltf.org.

2. Information We Collect Automatically

When you visit this site, our web server automatically records the following for security and operational purposes:

• IP address — to monitor for abusive or automated traffic
• Browser user agent — the browser and operating system string your browser sends
• Page visited and referring URL — which page you landed on and, if applicable, which site linked you here
• Timestamp — the date and time of your visit (UTC)

This information is stored in a private AWS S3 bucket accessible only to site administrators. It is used solely to understand aggregate traffic patterns and to detect and block automated scanners and bots. We do not link this data to any personal identity.

Log data is retained for approximately 30 days in our operational monitoring system (AWS CloudWatch), and visitor logs in S3 are reviewed periodically and purged when no longer needed for security purposes.

3. Information You Enter Into the Calculator

The Lifestyle Emissions Calculator asks questions about your household's home energy use, travel habits, diet, and spending. This information is not stored, transmitted to us, or linked to your IP address. All calculations run on our server in response to your form submission and the result is returned directly to your browser. We do not retain a copy.

Your ZIP code is used solely to look up regional energy grid data and climate averages in order to produce an accurate emissions estimate for your area.

4. Cookies

This site uses a small number of functional cookies:

• Flask session cookie — a technical cookie set automatically by our web framework to maintain security across your session. It contains no personal information and expires when you close your browser.
• Google reCAPTCHA cookies — we use Google reCAPTCHA v3 (an invisible spam-prevention service) on our calculator form. reCAPTCHA sets its own cookies and collects hardware and software information to distinguish humans from bots. This data is sent to Google and is subject to Google's Privacy Policy.

We do not use advertising cookies, analytics cookies (such as Google Analytics), or any cookies that track you across other websites.

5. Third-Party Services

The following third-party services are used in the operation of this site:

• Google reCAPTCHA — spam and bot prevention on form submissions. Subject to Google's Privacy Policy and Terms of Service.
• Amazon Web Services (AWS) — our site is hosted on AWS Elastic Beanstalk in the US East (Ohio) region. Server logs and visitor data reside on AWS infrastructure within the United States.
• Google Fonts — we load typefaces (Playfair Display and Libre Franklin) from Google's font CDN. This may result in your browser making a request to Google's servers when you load the page.

We do not currently process donations or payments on this site.
